Brodheadsville wins 2009 Fall League

It was a race to see which would finish first, the Major League Baseball playoffs or the Pride of the Diamond playoffs. A rough stretch of weather provided scheduling hardships for the teams but thanks to their cooperation and patience we were finally able to play under ideal conditions this weekend. On Sunday November 8th, yes four days after the completion of the World Series, we were finally able to crown a champion. The 2009 fall league champion is the Brodheadsville Bears.

Brodheadsville was able to win three games this weekend and win the Third Annual Pride of the Diamond Fall League. It was a difficult journey to the championship for the Brodheadsville team as they had to first win a second round game on Saturday morning against the Emmaus Athletics. After beating Emmaus, Brodheadsville had to play a semifinal game versus the Crusaders Saturday afternoon. By sweeping their two games, Brodheadsville earned a championship match-up on Sunday with Perk Baseball who defeated Quakertown in the other semifinal match-up on Saturday afternoon.

Perk Baseball reached its third consecutive championship game Sunday and was hoping that this year would be their turn to wear the crown. It is an incredible accomplishment and the Perk team deserves to be noticed for their consistent excellence over the past three years. However, the third time was not a charm for Perk and again the team from Perk would have to settle for being the 2009 runners-up. Brodheadsville completed a tough stretch of three games in two days to take home the championship. A feat well deserving of being crowned as the 2009 Champions. Congratulations Brodheadsville coaches, players and parents.

Thank you to all the teams for their participation in this years fall league. The continued growth and excellence of the league is a tribute to all of those involved who have helped make this league extremely enjoyable for Pride of the Diamond. We wish all of you success and health during you upcoming spring seasons and we look forward to seeing many of you again next fall.
